You want to use Apple because of price differance - go for it, all the power to you - if you want to use Windows Vista for its features and various other key .... Point: Welcome to the world economy ;) where I can fly to ASIA and buy a PC at half the price I can here? I can fly to New Zealand and get NZ wine a bit

JS @ microsoft public windowsxp general Go with XP, but buy a PC that meets all the Vista requirements or better still buy a model that is sold either way (with XP or Vista) and is identical in its hardware configuration. This way about a year from now after the bugs are worked out of Vista you can upgrade if you

For those poor souls who have lost their COA---
I'm used to 2x and not being able to use the PC for anything else while it's doing it. The older it is, the more expensive the RAM. $400 for 1Gb is way out of line. 512Mb can be had for $100 (~£50) here. It *is* Dell I'm talking about here remember. They sell the PCs cheap as chips and make their profit on the

When you buy a new drive you get a driver with it - if it is Nero software, I guess your current version will run. My last purchase - a DVD burner, came with Nero bundled. I *have* used Easy CD and while the presenting front end (now THAT sounds rude!) is different, What's wrong with 'primary interface' then? it is

large companies like Dell and Gateway are admitting that Vista's graphics drivers just aren't ready yet, resulting in them holding back shipping Vista upgrades to people who have already ordered (and paid for) them. For example you can't buy Dell's top-of- the-line XPS 710 PC with Vista installed because there

They only know "PC" and "MAC". That's it. Most people do not care. They trust Best Buy or Costco or Sam's Club to carry leading edge merchandise. They buy what is on the shelf at People don't buy Microsoft Windows. They buy a PC. They don't know what their options really are. Fortunately, that is changing.

Price of PCs as Vista nears?
The writer complains that if he buys Vista and then finds out his PC hasn't got the horsepower to run it (what, he didn't do the research), that he can only buy one new PC and install the same copy of Vista on it. The thing is, you have to go out of your way to buy a PC that won't already have Vista installed by

Windows Vista or XP on my pc?
What GOOD Things does Vista do for you that XP Pro SP2 could NOT? Can you come up with TEN of those? 'Nuff Said. Spence, I dunno if I can think of a specific number of reasons NOT to go to Vista right now, but I can think of only ONE reason TO go to Vista - if I needed to buy a PC right now and could not find one

Should you wait before buying a new PC? (Vista / Direct X10)
When my laptop went pop, I bought a brand new PC with Vista and Office 2007. Last week I came to edit my website but can't. According to MS, the relacement is Expression Web at US$299 (Ouch!!). Vista's hardware specs are already available. Quite modest. Your junker should be able to run it just fine with a selection from the current set of video cards. For me buying a new PC before Vista is release is a mistake. But even so why should I buy a new PC if my current does everything I need and want?

The "Homework" Comments...
Are you saying that I won't be able to buy a new pc without Vista being installed? Or do you mean that if I buy a new pc with MS Windows installed, that Vista will be the only option? I meant the second statement - buying a PC with MS Windows installed. I just meant that that is how most copies of Windows get

I am planning to buy a new computer. One I am looking at has XP Professional. What will it take to upgrade that to Vista when I am ready? What will it cost? You might be better buying a PC with Vista pre-installed on it. At least that way you know everything will be compatible.

PC sales are really sluggish at present, so this will impact the sales rate. I'm not sure that OEMs will be all that keen to raise the prices of PCs to accommodate the very demanding Vista, and if you don't have it on a high-end machine, why would you buy it at all? Still, as you say, they'll make sizable inroads

So they'll have deals and others will match - esecially on NON Vista capable PCs, and that Nov/Dec will see some super deals for folks that DON'T need Vista.
